Sidekick: 1 Insby
Name: Insby
Age: 16
Species: Advozse
Homeworld:Riflor
Gender:Male
Height: 5'
Weight: 150 lb.
Eyes: Black
Hair: Like the rest of his species Insby has a single black horn that justs from his head.
Skin Color: Ruddy Brown
Appearance:
While lacking in stature Insby exudes an atypical optimism and sense of adventure in the way he carried himself, he holds the kind of optimism that make more jaded people roll their eyes. He wear bright colors whenever he can afford them, though he always ends up getting them stained before long while working on the ship.
Personality:
Insby is an optimistic, happy, obsessive type, always running ahead in untenable anticipation of the next adventure. These traits are surprising in the youth especially after what he's been through.
Backstory: First mate Vistra had secured Captain Vzogri into a very lucrative job of transporting a group of refugees from the barren planet of Riflor to the outer rim. When The Great Wampa reverted to real space the Yuzzhan Vong were still there. A skilled and rapid descent to the rendezvous point found the crew landed without Vong detection, but when Vistra lowered the cargo bay ramp, only a small, and sickly portion of the group they were supposed to retrieve were their. It had been about a week since the Vong eradicated the plantlife of Riflor, and these people had obviously been starving. Vistra and Captain Zvogri ran out to help them aboard. A look of empathy fell on Zvogri's face as he beheld the Advozsec in their sickly state. Among the group was a family with a young boy he looked to be the healthiest of them and his parents to worst. An alarm went off in the ship.
"Looks like the Vong want a ride to." Spat Vistra as she hit the cargo bay door button, closing the hatch. Running as fast as they could Vistra beat The captain to the cockpit and started lifting the ship off the ground. The captain slid into his chair and Vistra gave him the controls. Outside the cockpit Zvogri could see the Vong swarming towards them.
"Take over." He told her. Vistra's eyes went wide she wasn't nearly the pilot Zvogri was, she'd not seen anyone who was. But she trusted his judgement. With no time to lose the Captain started punching in a complex jump in the nav computer. Vistra was doing some of the best flying she had in her life but the Vong assault was too massive for her to dodge completely. The shields were taking a hit.
Finally finishing the code the Captain turned to Vistra and yelled over the fire raining down on them. "Remember that switch I told you never to flip?"
"Yeah!"
"Flip it!"
Vistra flipped the switch overriding the safety on the hyperdrive that prevented them from taking a unpredictable jump inside the gravity influence of a planet, a precaution that kept them from reverting inside a sun. In that same moment Zvogri pushed to lever throwing them into hyper-space just before the full weight of the Yuuzhan Vong force obliterated them.
The Stars streaked and tumbled menacingly in Hyperspace unlike anything the two had ever seen in their spacefaring lives. As quickly as they saw it Zvorgi pulled the jump lever back.
Captain Zvogri and Vistra were slammed violently against their harnesses as The Great Wompa reverted to real space to the claxon wail of dozens of systems failing, warning signals firing incessantly. Zvorgi quickly checked the surroundings outside the ship, he had no idea where they were but at least they weren't inside a planet or sun.
The two scrambled about the ship repairing one life threatening malfunction after another. Until they'd finally stabilized the ship's condition, she couldn't jump again but she wasn't going to blow up.
"We need to check on the refugees." said Vistra exhaustion thick on her scaly face.
The metallic stench of blood was their only warning to the gruesome scene they were about to play witness to. Everything in the hold had been slammed into the forward wall when they reverted to realspace, the heavy crates, the speeder they kept on hand their extra food supplies, and the bodies of the refugees.
Vistra turned her head she'd seen death before, but this was different, these people had come onto the ship looking for escape and they received what must have been a horrible death.
"Help." came a poor beleaguered cry from behind a Durasteel crate.
"Help me with this." ordered Captain Zvorgi as he tried to lift the heavy crate. Vistra came and together they pulled the crate away. It was the sickly mother he had seen earlier just before the alarms went off.
"he's still alive, still fine, please keep him safe." She offered weakly The woman's body had taken the blow of the impact from the crate, what was left of a male was crushed against the wall. A boy was holding her, his head resting against her bloody chest while he cried. "He'll be a great adventurer one day, he's always telling me." She started to laugh before coughing up more blood. "Listen to me Insby, chin up now, are you listening?" The boy wiped the tears from his eyes with a bloody sleeve, he was biting his lip and nodded. "Good, These people are going to take care of you, ok? You need to listen to them like you would listen to me. They're good people, came all this way to save us from starving."
"But mom, you're..." Tears welled up in Insby's eyes, he held them back. "you're dying." Tears fell from his face and his breath stuck in his throat as he sobbed.
The woman held the boy close to her, feeling even through the pain her son's sobbs. Her face was pale as too little blood ran though too much body. "I know little flower, remember your father and I love you very much."
"I love you too mom." She closed her eyes and smiled as her last breath left her. The boy just held her and cried.
