The Intelligence Service of the Obsidian Union is split into seven seperate and distinct departments, that operate and co-operate together to various degrees. Unless other wise stated within this article, Agents or Operatives when not operating undercover wear the same same Uniform.
Standard Intelligence Uniform
Normally their roles mean that they will not be exposed to combat but on the rare occasion that they are all, except Special Investigations Directorate Troopers, use this set of Armour:

Role: Personnell who keep track of the various units, their capabilities, equipment and order of battle of our opponents. They also interrogate captured POW and obtain any documents carried by them and the enemy dead. They also supply the Intelligence personnel for the ships, fleets and units of the Obsidian Union Fleet and Army

Role: Signals intelligence (often contracted to SIGINT) is intelligence-gathering by interception of signals, whether between people (COMINT, or communications intelligence), whether involving electronic signals not directly used in communication (ELINT, or electronic intelligence), or combinations of the two. As sensitive information is often encrypted, signals intelligence often involves the use of cryptanalysis. Also, traffic analysis — the study of who is signaling whom and in what quantity — can often produce valuable information, even when the messages themselves cannot be decrypted.
1) Media: Responsible for the handling of public scandocs, newsdocs, holos, comlinks, beamcasts, and every form of media utilized by opponents and allies. They search for patterns or hidden meanings which might betray a clue as to an enemy's plan and operation.
2) COMINT: Monitor all enemy signals and search for secret communications hidden within standard messages. Perform Traffic analysis
3) ELINT; Attempt to slice into enemy computer networks, both civil and military. Watches computer mail. Analyses computer traffic. Try to access databases containin classified information, or networks that contain senitive and classified information.
4) Cryptanalysis(Crypt): Responsible for all code-breaking. All evidence of coded communication found through Media and COMINT's work are transferred to the Cryptanalysis section. Also contains Expert computer slices and Mathameticians responsible for breaking the encryption protocols on intercepted enemy computer messages, media or networks. This section also produces the classified Encryprtion protocols and codes used by all official organisations within the Obsidian Union
Operations:
Role: Here the instructions to the various spy networks and agents are sent out and the information comes back.They also handle the covert operations which were beyond the scope or required greater resources than those of the average system cell. The Bureau would send in a team of specialists to a sector, in effect creating an at-large system cell, or they could send a few agents to augment an already existing system cell for a single mission. They also supply Liason agents to the various planetary and System Law Enforcement agencies of the Obsidian Union. It is divided into Five distinct sections:
1) Surveillance: Surveillance keeps watch on serious all serious external threats to the Union. Surveillance agents are well trained in a broad variety of skills, including combat skills, as they were expected to handle situations by themselves in the field. Surveillance agents are thoroughly briefed on everything which is known about their targets, and were expected to be able to neutralize the subject or arrange for his kidnapping and transport back to the Union. Usually, more than one agent was selected for an important case, and Surveillance actively solicited the help of available system cells.
2) Infiltration: Infiltration specialise in inserting agents into the enemy forces in positions or jobs where they will have access to important or sectret information. Alternatively they can place someone within the staff or Household of important Enemy personnell
3) Diplomatic Section: The Diplomatic Section, acounted for a sizable portion of the personnel for trade and diplomatic missions sent to neutral or allied people and Empires where they would try and make contacts with those freindly to Union Aims and watch for those who it may be possible to recruit as agents. They also accounted for the political experts advising the Unions planetary governors and supply the Liasons to the various Law Enforcement agencies.
4) Assassination: Assassination's agents are trained to take every advantage, to use every trick and matter of subterfuge possible. Assassination is careful to select targets which mission success is probable. Their success ratio is much higher than the theoretical one.
5) Control & Planning: Responsible for taking the information supplied to them by the Analysis branch and making the correct decisions on how to best use its assets to gain the maximum advantage for the union. It supplies the instructions to the other Sections, Cells and individual agents and decides if extra help is needed in any given case.
Analysis:
Role: Responsible for handling large amounts of data from tens of millions of sources, searching for enemy activity by analyzing the patterns or trends in the data they handle and transmitting the information to Operations. Analysis also handled, examined and copied useful technologies, even developing a few of their own. It has six distinct sections.
1) Political: Responsible for studying all sources of information pertaining to both Allies and Enemies governing systems and political parties. For deciding if rhetoric is just posturing for public comsumption or really meant. How various policies will impact on the interests of the Union. For predicting what freinds and enemies will do in certain circumstances
2) Economical: Monitors the economy and manufacturing outputt of the enemies. Makes predictions on how much opponents can actually afford to do in any given circumstance. Watches for sectors or planets that are important to enemie and opponents ability tp wage war. Reccomends systems to be blockaded or invaded in the event of war.
3) Military: Tries to discern the likely actions taken by opposing military forces in given circumstances. Watches and gauges the strength of Enemy fleets, sectors and fortifications. Study new enemy weapon systems to discover weaknesses and how it is likely to be used.
4) Civil: Tries to predict the attitudes and reactions of the civilian population of opponents, allies and our own people.
5) Technical: The section of Analysis responsible for analyzing an enemy's hardware, figuring out how it works and devising methods to provide Operations with superior hardware. Tech has a lavish budget and a number of highly skilled personnel whose moments of brilliant inspiration can translate into innovative technology.
6) Interrogation / Debreifing: Responsible for the handling of captured enemy agents.They use various means to try and obtain the information these individuals have. Pyscological, Pharmacological and Physical means of questioning are used both singly or in combination depending on the pyschological and emotional make up of the individual under interrogation. Agents returning from missions or assignments are also quetioned by this section in an event to ghlean any more information they may have but have not reported and to ensure that they havent been turned
Special Intellingence Command:
Special Intelligence Operative Armour
Role: The Paramilitary branch of Intelligence. They are the ones to make raids if for political reasons our "official" forces cant. They can also pose as mercenary groups or pirates to infiltrate Fringe elements or to draw resources to areas we wish. On official "unnoficial" raids they wear spec ops armour. On more covert ops they have access to all kinds of armour obtained by various means. They also have access to a collection of "Uglies", beat up Y-wings, G1-M4c_ Dunelizards, Ixyien class Fast attack craft of various variants and appearances, Kihraxz Light Fighters and the Vaksai Variant of it, M3-A Scyk Fighters, M12-L Kimoglia Heavy Fighter and Rihkxyrk Heavy Fighters along with refitted freighters and transports to carry them. Under the personnel command of the Director of Intelligence, Operations need his express permission to deploy these personell
Counter Intelligence:
Role: Specialize in identifying and dismantling enemy intelligence operations. If a particular operation is considered to be potentially useful to the Union, they hand over all information on the enemy intelligence operation to the Operations Branch Infiltration section, who would then take the case and deal with it accordingly. However, if an operation was considered insignificant or too dangerous its members will be picked up for interrogation before Execution, or if it is beleived they have no information of worth killed.

Trooper Armour
Role: Officially a part of the Counter Intelligence Department, Its role has made it more or less autonomous and actually more powerfull than its parent department. Responsible for hunting out enemy spies, agents or traitors within the Intelligence service itself and within the rest of the Unions armed Forces. Because they may have to attack or arrest mutinous or traiterous units they also have their own dedicated Stormtrooper force, who double as prison Guards and can "assist" with interrogations.
