After only a brief time spent on Vjun conferring with Darth Aristo, Darth Lucifer and Darth Corrin returned to the shuttle they'd arrived on, with its still-hot engines, leaving to join the fleet in orbit. Soon Lucifer stood on the bridge of Arkadia, the Bellator-class Super Star Destroyer that was the Dark Lord's favorite ship in the Union Navy. By his side was High Captain Kwyntehst Varn, the vessel's Pui-ui commanding officer. Formed up in a tiered defensive formation was the sizable fleet that had been assigned to defend Vjun.
Closest to the dreadnought were the Imperial-2 Star Destroyers Consular Fist, Insurrectionist Pride, Tarkin Doctrine and Ultimate Victory. Along with them were the Imperial-1 SDs Strider, Virulence and Cross-Current. This core group of ISDs were assembled in the hopes of providing some check against the surely superior ISD numbers the Imperial Remnant would bring.
The next ring of defense was populated by the more eclectic heavy capital ship classes at the Union's disposal. Two Aggressor-class Star Destroyers, Conquest and Death Count, had been brought to bear for their mighty main weapons. And in front of them were Aranar, a Keldabe battleship and two MC 90 Star Cruisers, the Immanence and Tidal Force.
Beyond the dense durasteel of these ships, lighter Star Destroyers were arrayed. Four Venator-class Star Destroyers, the Mandate, Talon, Malignance and Revenance. More numerous were the Victory-2 Star Destroyers, Redwater, Widowmaker, Spear of Destiny, Voracious, Insipid, Torment and Gaues.
Next came the Union frigate lines. These contained the Mk 1 Assault Frigate, Clarity of Vision and the Victory-2 Frigates Black Heart, Death Stalker and Eviscerator. Filling out the frigates' ranks were Nebulon-B escorts, March, Rampage, Hell's Clutches, Merciless Justice, Wrath, Holdfast and Forward. Further providing anti-starfighter capabilities to this ring were two Lancer-class frigates, Malice and Avarice.
The outer most portions of this fleet formation were dominated by CR-90 Corvettes and DP-20 gunships, along with a host of sub-corvettes, purchased by the Union Navy from the Khar shipyards. And, of course, the typical Union bevy of Tartan Patrol Cruisers. Positioned at various points in the fleet to provide operation flexibility were the Broadside Cruisers Steel Punch and Malevolence and the Gladiator-class Star Destroyers Juggernaut, Skirmisher and Disinherited. Last of all, but potentially most vital, was the Ascendancy-class Destroyer, God's Message. Of the three such vessels in Union service, one other was with Kas and the last with Wade Zemmer's task force, leaving just one of the anti-capital ship vessels for Lucifer's use.
As the Dark Lord was arranging the fleet, Darth Corrin was in the Arkadia's hangars prepping the TIE Defender he had been requisitioned. The Union was counting on its TIE modernization program to provide a key technological advantage over the Remnant's older TIE models in this fight.
In due time the enemy fleet emerged on the borders of the Vjun system. Arriving first at a safe distance, the Imperials began to close with the Union fleet rapidly. At the heart of the invading force were twenty Imperial-2 Star Destroyers. There were furthermore significant numbers of Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers, Victory-2 Frigates and enough Tartan patrol cruisers to make the Union fleet feel plagiarized. Unlike the defending fleet, the Imperials moved in an aggressive array of wedge formations. Darth Lucifer reminded himself that he only needed to hold the Imperials until they were drawn back by Kana Kuran's surprise attack on their home space, and that there was a reserve fleet waiting for his signal at Yavin if he needed it.
