The space-based Infantry fighting arm of the Federal Military, the members of the Stellar Marine Corps are tasked with shipboard combative actions, including but not limited to the capturing of enemy ships and the repelling of hostile boarders. Though similar in organization to the Terrestrial Forces, the Stellar Marines differ in that they are primarily designed to fight solely aboard starships rather than deploy to a planet – though in certain cases, Stellar Marines may be deployed groundside as shock troopers. Whilst Stellar Marines aboard a vessel answer to a ranking Naval officer aboard that ship (through the commanding officer of the Marine detachment), the orders of that officer are superseded by the orders of both the Master Chief Officer and the ranking Marine authority in the fleet they are serving in. Consequently, excepting Stellar Marine High Command, the Marines require very little in the way of support staff, the duties of which are filled by members of the Stellar Navy.

1.0 – Organisational Structure
1.1 – Order of Battle
• Fireteam (5 troops): A subdivision of the squad formation, Fireteams are ad-hoc consisting of two teams of five troops, lead respectively by the squad’s sergeant and corporal (both of whom are assisted by a Private (1st class)).
• Squad (10 troops): The smallest formation that can reasonably be expected to be stationed aboard a warship, Squads consist of ten troops including a sergeant (who leads the squad) and a corporal (the sergeant’s second-in-command).
• Complement: Officially, Stellar Marine forces are referred to as ‘Marine Complements’. Due to confusion between Marine and Terrestrial forces carried aboard a vessel (the latter of which are also referred to as complements), Marine Complements are unofficially referred to as ‘Garrisons’, partly due to their role requiring them to remain aboard ship far more often than Terrestrial Forces.
• Platoon (three or more squads): A platoon consists of a minimum of three squads commanded by a Lieutenant, who is assisted by a Sergeant Major.
• Company (three or more Platoons): A Company is commanded by a Captain, and consists of three or more Platoons.
• Battalion (three or more Companies): Under the command of a Major, Battalions consist of three or more Companies.
• Regiment (three or more Battalions): Consisting of three or more Battalions, Regiments are commanded by a Colonel and are the largest single Marine formation normally found aboard a vessel.
• Brigade (three or more Regiments): Brigades are the most flexible and undefined formation within the Stellar Marine Order of Battle. Commanded by a Senior Officer, Brigades nominally consist of an average of three or more Regiments, but in truth they consist of however many Regiments are required to fully complement the Naval fleet they are assigned to, with a small reserve force. Under normal circumstances, a Brigade is spread throughout the entire fleet; only in the case of Super Star Destroyers and large and/or critical space stations will a Brigade be concentrated aboard a single vessel.
• Division (varied): Unlike the other formations in the Stellar Marines, a ‘Division’ is not a battle formation but is in fact an administrative one, referring to one of the three branches found within the Stellar Marine Corps – Spacetroopers, Marines and Shock Troopers. Divisions are headed by a Chief Officer, who administrates the affairs of all Marines within their Division.
1.2 – Ranks
• Cadet: Not to be confused with the future members of a proposed military youth program, ‘Cadet’ refers to members of the Stellar Marine Corps who have not yet completed their training and entered active service.
• Private: The entry level rank for most Marines, Privates comprise a significant portion of the Stellar Marines numbers. They perform the majority of roles within the Stellar Marines, and operate in ten man squads.
• Private (1st class): A stepping stone to Corporal (though it is not unheard of for a Private to progress straight to Corporal if they show promise), Privates (1st class) perform all the duties of Privates in addition to taking on the role of second-in-command within a Fireteam.
• Corporal: Corporals act as the second-in-command of a squad, lead one of the two Fireteams within a squad, and perform some of the more specialised roles required by the Stellar Marine Corps. If their squad’s sergeant is incapacitated or killed, they immediately take over his or her duties.
• Sergeant: Sergeants directly command a squad of Stellar Marines, and also command one of the two Fireteams within a squad.
• Sergeant Major: Sergeant Majors assist Lieutenants in the command of a platoon, and are the senior-most enlisted persons within the Stellar Marines – except in matters that fall under the authority of a Master-at-Arms.
• Master-at-Arms: Usually Sergeants, Masters-at-Arms fulfill a variety of secondary duties among the force of Marines they are attached to, including but not limited to disciplinary, security and investigative matters. Their authority, in their assigned areas, is tantamount, and cannot be overruled without significant reason.
• Lieutenant: The lowest and entry-level officer rank, Lieutenants are charged with the command of a Platoon of Marines. They are assisted by a Sergeant Major, and it is encouraged that they take their advice into account. Of the officer ranks, Lieutenants see the most combat, often resulting in good Lieutenants developing strong bonds with the Marines under their command.
• Captain: Captains command a Company, and it is the lowest role where the Marines under their command may be spread across several vessels rather than concentrated on one.
• Major: Majors command a Battalion of Stellar Marines.
• Colonel: Colonels command a Regiment, and often act in advisory roles to the Senior Officer in charge of their parents Brigade.
• Senior Officer: Charged with the command of a Brigade, Senior Officers command the largest formation of Stellar Marines. As their Brigade is normally spread across a fleet, most Senior Officers take a back seat approach and are encouraged trust in the advice and judgement of their Colonels. The Senior Officers of a fleet make their reports directly to High Command.
• Chief Officer: Analogous to the High Commanders of the Terrestrial Forces and the High Admirals of the Stellar Navy, the three Chief Officers each administrate one of the Stellar Marines’ three divisions. Reporting directly to the Master Chief and the Adjutant General, they also form an advisory council to assist the Master Chief in making decisions that affect the Stellar Marines as a whole.
• Adjutant General: The senior administrative officer in the Stellar Marines, the Adjutant General is the personal assistant of the Master Chief Officer second only to them in authority. Though they primarily serve as a secretary and ensure that the Master Chief’s orders are carried out, they often take command of the Marines in their absence and provide advice and counsel when necessary.
Tiberius Prator is the Adjutant General of the Stellar Marines. The 35 year old Anoo-dat Prime fought side by side with Lady Loon herself during the Snowfall campaign, forging a connection on the battlefield. Ever since, Lady Loon has relied on him when tasked with a situation that called for certain force, and thus was her first choice to be Adjutant General. Before joining the Union's military, Tiberius was born on Annoo and was raised as his species was conquering the planet Gelefil (later renamed to become present day Annoo). Those born in such a trying time gave the reptilian species a fondness for death death - which is what pushed Tiberius to leave his planet, and his now war-like species, in the hopes of finding something better. This is what brought him into the folds of the Union, and into the sights of Lady Loon herself.
• Master Chief Officer of the Stellar Marines: The head of the Stellar Marine Corps, the Master Chief Officer (generally referred to as the Master Chief) is charged with overseeing all administrative and organisational duties within the Stellar Marines, assisted by the Adjutant General. They are equal in position and standing to the other heads of the branches of the Federal Military. The current Master Chief is Lady Loon.
2.0 – Divisions
2.1 – 1st Spacetrooper Division
Chief Officer: Leo Koryn
The elitist of the elite in the Stellar Marines, used when a specific result must be assured. These marines are deployed in specific types of battles such as boarding enemy ships. Transported via Gamma-class assault shuttles, these marines are extensively trained to operate Zero-G assault Spacetrooper armor. Using this armor to cut into the hull of a targeted ship, their goal is to either destroy the ship from within, or capture it and keep it intact. The Spacetrooper division is reserved for specifically tougher missions all due because there are few of the soldiers overall.
Leo Koryn is the 40 year old Chief Officer of the 1st Spacetrooper Division. A hardened war veteran, Koryn was born amongst the blood and battle crazed parents that were consumed by the Mandalorian culture. Training an integral part of his upbringing, he grew up learning the art of war and how to strengthen his body. Leo's path split from that of the Mandalorians after the death of his parents brought him to seek a more righteous cause, and the Union became his new home. Becoming a prominent and notable member of the Federal Military through serving in nearly all of the major Union conflicts, Leo rose through the ranks of the Terrestrial Forces Heavy Infantry Division and gained the notice of many notable officers within the Federal Military – particularly that of the newly-appointed Master Chief, Lady Loon. Due to his Mandalorian nature and experience with intensive training and operations, he was naturally assigned command of the most highly trained division, and often takes a hands-on approach to inspecting the quality of his division’s training and performance.
Equipment:
- Zero-G assault Stormtrooper armour (interfaces with standard Stormtrooper armour):
- Shoulder mounted, magazine-fed grenade launchers (concussion, gas, stun)
- Blaster cannon
- Miniature proton-torpedo launcher
- Laser cutters
2.2 – 2nd Marine Division
Chief Officer: Ralot
The Marine Division is what the Stellar Marines are best known for. With their exceeding courage, will, and determination, these soldiers set the standard for the most able soldiers in the Obsidian Union. The Marines see action mostly aboard enemy and allied vessels. Their initial objective is to defend a ship against enemy boarding parties, however when they are called upon, these marines are also the ones to board other ships given similar objectives as the Spacetrooper Division. The training that these marines go through is extensive to say the least, and they must prove through physical and psychological training that they have what it takes to bear the crest of the Stellar Marines. These soldiers are tough, and hardened, and ready for battle at a moment’s notice.
The 2nd Marine Division is commanded by Ralot, a Feeorin. 155 years old, Ralot lived his life according to the strict code of his people – Rime Feeorin – and answered only to the highly acclaimed Exalted, leader of his people. After serving in the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars and gaining experience one of the Grand Army’s few non-Clone Non-Commissioned Officers, Ralot resigned after the war’s end to return his people and clan. The training he received from both the Republic and his own people made him one of the most revered warriors in his clan, and Ralot was content to remain with his people for the next few decades. After playing a small part at the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the emerging Obsidian Union finally caught his interest, and Ralot left his home to join the Union Military. Complementing his already immense skill and experience with roles in both the Stellar Navy and Terrestrial Forces, notably during the Snowfall Campaign, Ralot rose high to an officer position before catching the attention of Lady Loon as she established the Stellar Marines.
Equipment:
- Plasteel armour vest
- Streamlined Combat helmet (night-vision, anti-flash, comlink equipped)
- E-11 Blaster Carbine
- Blaster Pistol
- Fusioncutter
- Stun grenades (3)
2.3 – 3rd Shock Trooper Division
Chief Officer: Prayo
A unique entity when compared to the other two Divisions, the 3rd Shock Trooper Division works closely with members of the Terrestrial Forces in cases of planetside warfare. Unlike the other two Divisions, which deploy and fight solely in space, 3rd Division is trained to deploy from space via drop pods and assault shuttles and assist ground forces. Their primary duty is as a vanguard force, deploying to a planet ahead of a main force to help gain a foothold and establish landing zones so that the rest of the force can deploy. Secondary duties include acting as commandos and providing rapid reinforcements through drop-pod deployment.
A Yinchorri male, Prayo (his last name unpronounceable by anyone lacking Yinchorri vocal chords) is the (estimated to be) 68-year-old Chief Officer of the 3rd Shock Trooper Division. The least level headed of the commanding officers (although implying this means he can’t follow orders is generally considered unwise), Prayo was a Shock Trooper before the Division the Stellar Marines had even become a concept, always one of the first to hit the ground and always intent on completing the job before the rest of the Terrestrial Forces arrived. Despite his brutality and aggressiveness, Prayo always demonstrated remarkable leadership and tactical abilities, which is what one day caught the attention of the Master Chief. Born on Yinchorr during the Yinchorri Uprising, Prayo’s life was marked by the crisis, and the bitter resentment towards the Republic and Jedi his parents nursed for ending the uprising was imparted to Prayo. He developed an intense hatred of what he saw as oppression, and when the Galactic Empire replaced the Republic Prayo’s hope for change was crushed, by their brutal methods. This was only magnified by Palpatine’s genocide of the planet’s native species, of which Prayo was a survivor. His hatred towards tyranny and oppression, perceived or otherwise, came to define him. Some may question why, despite this, he is such a distinguished member of the Union. The answer, known by few, is simply that his desire for vengeance against what he sees as both the Empire and Republic reborn – the Galactic Alliance – is stronger than even his hatred of any oppression.
