Follower Tiers
Through many means, Sith can attract various followers into their service. The most notable of these is the famous Minions of the Sith Lords, but others include the expert soldiers that flock to a Sith Marauder, and even the frail researchers and scholars of the Sith Acolytes. Not all followers are equal: some are little more than cannon fodder and street urchins, while others are highly trained soldiers that can go toe-to-toe even with less-experienced Sith. Followers are divided into five tiers that define the rough skill-levels and effectiveness of the beings in each tier, along with rough (but not concrete) suggestions for level. Quality of equipment or possession of special skills and training can also affect a Follower's Tier beyond their level. Unless otherwise noted, examples of beings are drawn from the Threats of the Galaxy Sourcebook; ask a moderator if you are having trouble obtaining a copy.
Tier 1 (1-2): Usually little more than basic combat droids, street thugs, and the most ill-equipped of backwater militias, Tier 1 Followers have minimal combat ability and poor equipment, but possess one or two useful skills and are most effective in large groups. Examples: Thug (Core p284), Brute (p20), Bureaucrat (p21), Technician (p100), Imperial Army Trooper (Force Unleashed Campaign Guide, p174)
Tier 2 (3-5): Basic but professional soldiers, robust combat droids, experienced pilots, and adventurous spacers mark Tier 2 Followers. These Followers possess acceptable, and occasionally great or exotic, equipment, good training, and usually a small handful of diverse skills to make them useful. Examples: Stormtrooper (Core, p279), Con Artist (p24), Diplomat (p35), Doctor (p36), Engineer (p36), Mercenary (p55), Pilot (p63)
Tier 3 (6-9): Seasoned soldiers and mercenaries, experienced space-travellers, cocky captains and skilled criminals comprise Tier 3 Followers. Generally, Tier 3 Followers are simply an improvement upon the stats of Tier 2; however, in some instances a being may be Tier 3 due to extreme skills in one particular field (for example, a crook with decent combat skills who is exceptional at gathering information). Examples: Pirate (p66), Royal Handmaiden (p77) Ship Gunner (p79), Slicer (p86), Smuggler (p88)
Tier 4 (10-12): Beings of exceptional skill, resourcefulness, and training, Tier 4 Followers are invaluable assets to their leader. Usually fearless combatants in their own right, some Tier 4 Followers exhibit exceptional skill in certain fields beyond combat and are well-equipped for their chosen tasks. Examples: Bounty Hunter (Core, p283), Bodyguard (Threats of the Galaxy, p14), Commando (Threats of the Galaxy, p22), Infiltrator (Threats, p40), Officer (Threats, p60), Elite Pilot (Threats, p65), Elite Soldier (Threats, p94)
Tier 5 (13+): Even the mightiest of Sith Lords usually calls these sorts of beings allies rather than Followers. Tier 5 Followers are extremely rare, few in number, and could often challenge a player character if they were not in their service. A Tier 5 warrior can turn the tide of a battle, while others can oversee complex operations independently. Tier 5 Followers should be selected carefully and wielded surgically. Examples: Crime Lord (p25), Elite Commando (p23), Ace Pilot (p64), Ship Captain (p79), Elite Warrior (p102)
