Obsidian Union
A recently emerged superpower in the outer reaches of the galaxy, the Obsidian Union was formed when the Tion Hegemony, Cronese Mandate, and Allied Tion Sector seceded from the New Republic and formed their own state at the urging of Rakshesh Dawnstar. The Union was later joined by Hutt Space and several sectors throughout the galaxy. Currently it is lead by Consul Dawnstar, better known by the moniker Xaos, and protected by the twin powers of the Obsidian Knights and the Droid Armies.
Raxus Secundus
Originally the capital of the CIS, and now the capital of the Obsidian Union. The capital city of Raxulon is the nexus of the Obsidian Union and is home to its assorted governmental and military headquarters, including the Consul's residence and the Temple of the Obsidian Knights. In addition, it is home to all of the amenities a capital can offer, with countless shops, restaurants, and seedy alleyways but, curiously, no homeless. The planet itself is a lush paradise of rolling green hills and scenic vistas dotted with farms, vineyards, and the villas of important Union benefactors and politicians.
Raxus Prime
For most of its history, Raxus Prime has been a toxic junkyard world. Yet the rise of the Union saw a surprising project emerge – many wealthy Union benefactors, disgusted at the notion of such a disgusting world occupying the same system as their capital, bankrolled an immense environmental clean-up operation. Now massive harvester droids roam the planet, recycling its millennia of scrap into useable materials that are sent to shipyards and production facilities in orbit. Advanced climate control environmental engineering techniques have seen small patches of the planet already begin to bloom green again.
Lianna
The capital of the Allied Tion Sector and a wealthy ecumenopolis, Lianna is most famous as the headquarters of Santhe/Sienar Technologies, the producers of the TIE Fighter. While TIE Fighter production on the planet has long since ceased, the planet’s immense production capabilities and impressive shipyards are now focused on the development of new Union technologies and war vessels. Coupled with its incredible trading power and its prestige as the home of the most renowned universities and institutions in the Union, Lianna is an influential Union powerhouse.
Dol Gorath
While the official headquarters of the Union Defence League is the Sev’rance Tower on New Bethrezen, Dol Gorath is the true home of the Union’s military. A thick asteroid thicket surrounding the planet makes travel without constantly-updated navigation charts almost impossible. Most notably, Dol Gorath is the new home of Space Platform Choronu, a massive CIS installation and shipyard reactivated by the Super Tactical Droid Kalani.
Nal Hutta & Hutt Space
The Hutts suffered heavy losses during the Yuuzhan Vong War – the city-planet of Nar Shaddaa was devastated, and the toxic homeworld of the Nutts Nal Hutta was in the process of being Vongformed into a ‘paradise’ world when the Vong were chased from the galaxy. Humiliated by their defeats, the Hutt Clans began an unprecedented military build-up to secure their borders, and were one of the first states to join the Obsidian Union. In a show of their power, the Hutts restored Nal Hutta to its fetid pre-war conditions and rebuilt their palaces, and now the planet is the same as it has always been.
Nar Shaddaa
Once a haven for smugglers and renegades, the city-moon of Nar Shaddaa was almost totally destroyed during the Yuuzhan Vong War. The efforts of the Hutts in the post-war period have seen the restoration of some of its sprawl, but what was once an endless sea of skyscrapers is now a green planet dotted by numerous small cities. Nonetheless, the criminal elements restored their power quickly and the planet is once again a haven for undesirables.
Ossus
An old Jedi world in the middle of Union territory, it was home to a small Jedi satellite academy that was evacuated after the formation of the Obsidian Union. The planet is now the property of the Obsidian Knights who have begun numerous historical and archaeological expeditions to learn more about the Jedi and their history.
The Tetrad
Despite being one of the smallest regions of Union Space, the Tetrad ironically stretches over the Inner Rim, Expansion Region, and Mid Rim. The region earned its name by consisting of four systems otherwise isolated from the heart of Union territory. These being Ambria, Onderon, Umbara, and Trandosha. Though each planet has its own reasons for siding with the Union (often wildly different ones), simple necessity ensures that they can rely on each other for aid. The Tetrad is uncomfortably close to the Core for many Ne Republic citizens. Unlike other isolated Union systems that can be dismissed as backwater hold-outs, the Tetrad had interplanetary networks. Its location alone has already damaged the New Republic economy as Umbara and Ambria neighbor Zeltros. This has put a serious damper on Zeltros’ formally highly lucrative tourism trade.
Onderon
Rich in history and proud of their traditions, Onderon’s is one of the Union’s most Coreward planets. Orbited by the savage moon Dxun, the population of Onderon is constrained almost entirely in the massive walled city of Iziz. Those who live outside the walls are either consumed by or tame the savage beasts that roam the rest of the planet. Onderon’s current Royal Family, the Vex family, are cautious in their devotion to the Union, and joined the Union largely for independence and protection from the New Republic and First Order over blind faith in the Union cause.
Kashyyyk & Trandosha
Kashyyyk, the home of the Wookies, and Trandosha, the home of the Trandoshans, have been in conflict since before they discovered the hyperdrive. The Trandoshans joined the Union early, and used its support to blockade Kashyyyk and form the beginnings of the Tetrad.
Zakuul
Zakuul is a remnant of its former self. Thousands of years ago, the Eternal Empire of Zakuul under the Immortal Emperor Valkorian swept across the galaxy using the invincible Eternal Fleet and the power of the Knights of Zakuul, until their power was broken by the Eternal Alliance. Zakuul has only waned since those days, abandoning many proud traditions. Yet four thousand years of stagnation may finally have come to an end. Consul Xaos sought out the planet after the Declaration of Union and convinced the people of Zakuul to end their millennia of isolation. Though not a member of the Obsidian Union it has become a strong and secret ally, and many Knights of Zakuul, now revived in their traditions and prestige, have become a part of the Obsidian Knights.
First Order
The true successor state of the Empire, the First Order was founded by Imperial Admirals and commanders who chose to retreat into the Unknown Regions rather than continue the fight against the New Republic. The First Order built its power in secret and revealed itself to the galaxy during the Yuuzhan Vong War, where it annihilated the invaders. The true extent and power of the First Order is unknown – much of its territory remains hidden is in the Unknown Regions. Still, it maintains a sizeable presence in the known galaxy, having taken control of the territory formerly belonging to the fallen Imperial Remnant.
Remnants of Starkiller Base
Starkiller Base was a planet-destroying superweapon devised by the First Order to crush the New Republic, similarly to the Death Star. Its maiden firing destroyed an entire Yuuzhan Vong Battlefleet and two Worldships. It was destroyed in a titanic battle between the entire Yuuzhan Vong invasion fleet and the First Order, when the invaders flew a worldship into its main cannon as it fired. Though Starkiller Base exploded, the Yuuzhan Vong forces were quickly routed by the remaining First Order ships and soon chased from the galaxy. Now the planet’s remains are guarded by the First Order, who salvage what they can from the destroyed superweapon. Despite their best efforts, a number of smugglers and pirates continue to slip into the system, stealing valuable pieces of technology from the vast asteroid field.
Yaga Minor
The First Order’s major shipyard outside of its Unknown Regions holdings, Yaga Minor is an important staging ground for the First Order military. It is also home to a large office of the First Order’s intelligence organization, the details of which remain scarce.
Bastion
Previously the capital of the Imperial Remnant, Bastion is the throneworld of the First Order’s known holdings and is one of the most fortified planets in the galaxy. Though devastated during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the First Order has efficiently restored the planet to working condition and now trains legions of Stormtroopers here.
Rakata Prime(?)
It is believed that the technology used to create Starkiller Base came from an ancient civilization known as the Rakata. Almost nothing is known about this species, but a number of references to ‘Rakata Prime’ have been found in decrypted First Order communications. This is believed to be a planet deep in the Unknown Regions.
Byss
Once a fortress-world of Emperor Palpatine, Byss was largely forgotten after the Emperor’s death. It changed hands many times during the feuding of the Deep Core Warlords, but the heavy fighting devastated the planet’s war production and left it largely a trophy. The First Order seized the world after its emergence and revitalized its forges, turning it into an important Deep Core holding. The First Order’s plans for the planet are unknown, but some theorists have suggested the First Order’s possession of the world close to Coruscant is a factor in the New Republic’s relocation to Hosnian Prime.
New Republic
Coruscant
For tens of thousands of thousands of years, Coruscant was THE Capital of the galaxy. A vast city-planet home to over a trillion beings, Coruscant was the capital of the Old Republic, and later the Galactic Empire, which renamed the planet Imperial Center. The New Republic captured Coruscant from the remnants of the Empire and governed from it until the Yuuzhan Vong War, where the planet fell to the invaders. Coruscant remained in Yuuzhan Vong hands until the very end of the war, as the invaders were in the process of Vongforming it to match their long-lost homeworld. Control of Coruscant returned to the New Republic after the war, but the planet remains devastated – many of its sprawling towers have been torn down, replaced with lakes, forests, and fields. Reconstruction of Coruscant has been slow, but it remains a crucial trade world and a symbol of galactic power. In the meantime, the New Republic government has relocated to Hosnian Prime.
Hosnian Prime
A cosmopolitan world not quite matching Coruscant in the size or scale of its sprawl, Hosnian Prime is the current capital of the New Republic. It is home to the Senate and the New Republic Military.
World Trill(?)
Unknown. Several intercepted Jedi communiques have referenced this world extensively, but its full name, location, and significance are unknown. Some analysts have suggested it is connected to the disappearance of many Jedi following the Foehammer Strategy.
Zsinj’s Empire
Warlord Zsinj was one of the most feared warlords of the post-Endor Imperial forces, controlling an empire that, at its height, dominated the Outer Rim and encompassed nearly a third of the Empire’s old holdings – that was until the New Republic turned their attention on him. Zsinj’s glory days are long behind him and he would largely have become a footnote in galactic history were it not for the refugee crisis brought on by the Yuuzhan Vong War. Zsinj, secluded in the long-forgotten Sith worlds of the Stygian Caldera, used the sudden influx of labour to build a new Empire and rapidly grew its borders. With a sizeable fleet and army to back his power, Zsinj is once again a major power in the Outer Rim.
Korriban, Ziost & The Stygian Caldera
The ancient Sith worlds of the Stygian Caldera were forgotten for millennia until Zsinj, fleeing his defeat by the New Republic, settled the last of his forces there. Subjugating the local population, Zsinj was largely constrained to these worlds until the arrival of scores of refugees during the Yuuzhan Vong War. The Caldera is shrouded in the Cloak of the Sith, a nearly impenetrable array of nebulae and stellar bodies. Zsinj rules his empire from Ziost, the ancient and icy throneworld of the Sith. But arguably more important is the world Korriban, the homeworld of the Sith species, the center of many Sith Empires in ages past, and the home to thousands of Sith tombs and relics. Korriban’s many remaining secrets are of great interest to the Obsidian Knights.
Zygerria
A slaver’s world, Zygerria’s resources have been instrumental in reestablishing Zsinj’s Empire. Many of the refugees who fled into the Caldera found a worse fate in the slave pits of Zygerria, where they produce weapons of war or are pressed into service as soldiers.
The Disputed Systems
After the devastation of the Yuuzhan Vong War and the subsequent emergence of the First Order onto the galactic stage, many disillusioned systems and planets quietly withdrew from the New Republic. Fearing the First Order as the Empire resurgent and slow to trust the nascent Obsidian Union, these planets and systems have formed their own governments and minor militaries to carve out their own regions of space. The above astrographical map may suggest that these planets formed their own superpower covering most of the Outer Rim, but in reality nothing could be further from the truth. The Disputed Worlds, as the New Republic has diplomatically dubbed them, are largely independent of each other and typically consist at the largest of a handful of nearby systems that have cloistered together for mutual trade and defence.
Without the backing of a galactic superpower, the Disputed Worlds are rife with strife, minor skirmishes, and bloody wars that the galaxy looks away from. Naturally, they have become a hotbed of underhanded manoeuvring and proxy conflict between the galaxy's major factions.
Ciutric & the Ciutric Alliance
During the warlord era, the Ciutric Hegemony was the playpit of Prince-Admiral Delak Krennel, who ruled the region with a force of Star Destroyers until the New Republic liberated the sector. It reformed itself into the Ciutric Alliance afterwards, but was among the planets in the path of the Yuuzhan Vong advance. It has since been struggling to rebuild, but with First Order territory seemingly next-door the Alliance quietly chose to secede from the New Republic. Though not officially part of First Order territory, the overtures and tributes the sector offers to the First Order make it clear who the major influence is.
Csilla & the Chiss Ascendancy
Deep in the Unknown Regions reside the mysterious Chiss. Precious little is known about this species, but the species’ tactical brilliance was shown to the galaxy by Grand Admiral Thrawn, a member of the species working for the Empire. The Chiss are believed to possess advanced warships and tactics. Their relationship with the First Order is unknown, but they are believed to be xenophobic.
Hapes & the Hapes Consortium
A self-indulgent isolationist state in the Inner Rim, the Hapes Consortium has kept itself apart from galactic society for thousands of years. Prizing vain beauty above all else, it was nominally a member of the New Republic and assisted in the defeat of Zsinj’s former empire. It is even believed that a member of the royal family trained with the Jedi Order. Since the Yuuzhan Vong War and the emergence of the First Order, its isolationist tendencies have exploded into xenophobia and the Hapans jealously guard their borders with fleets of battleships. Thankfully, the Hapans never venture beyond their borders, allowing the galaxy to rightfully ignore them.
Mandalore & Mandalorian Space
Mandalore’s attempt at pacifism fell apart during the reign of the Empire, and the planet has long since returned to its old ways. Mandalorians remain honourable and relish combat, but the threat of the First Order and the weakness of the New Republic has lead them to form their own minor galactic state with other planets of their sector.
The Centrality
A sparse, isolated sector at the edge of the Galaxy, the Centrality is the playpit of psychotic Admiral-dictator Sris Lehhet who has held it in its firm grasp since the warlord era with a mighty fleet of Imperial Dreadnaughts. The people have long suffered under Lehhet’s rule, but his brutal ruling methods assure his power from within and without. Surrounding Disputed Territories largely avoid the area, though Lehhet has been known to invade systems that incur his wrath and has lately absorbed several minor planets and territories into his pocket empire.
Cantonica & The Corporate Sector
Sitting at the end of the Hydian Way in the far reaches of the galaxy is the Corporate Sector, a haven of late-stage capitalism and corporate greed. In the Corporate Sector, the only law is money. Its planets trade with anyone who can pay, and indentured servitude is the norm. The planet’s most famous sector is Cantonica, a resort-and-gambling world where anything can be bought, sold, or won.
Zonama Sekot
A small minority of the Yuuzhan Vong chose to surrender to the New Republic following the Yuuzhan Vong War rather than die fighting or flee the galaxy. They were resettled by the Jedi on the living planet Zonama Sekot, which the Jedi had located during the closing days of the war. Capable of hyperspace travel and defending itself, Zonama Sekot vanished into the Unknown Regions with its new inhabitants, allowing them a chance at a new life.
Empire of the Hand
Even more secretive than the First Order is the Empire of the Hand. This is believed to be an alternate Imperial successor-state; their relationship with the First Order is unknown, as is the precise location of any of their territory or resources. It is believed that a number of Imperial Remnant Officers who vanished after the First Order claimed Remnant territory joined this faction. Their goals are unknown.
Nirauan
Sliced New Republic intelligence reports indicate that this world is home to a major Empire of the Hand fortress. The planet itself has not yet been located.
