The Story So Far...
When the New Republic decisively defeated the Empire at the Battle of Jakku, the remnants of the Empire splintered into feuding warlords. The New Republic clashed with these warlords, unaware of the true threat - the First Order, building its strength in the dark corners of the galaxy. Although the New Republic finally claimed the Galaxy after nearly two decades and a hopeful New Jedi Order arose, peace was never to last. An onslaught of vicious aliens swept into the galaxy from dark space, nearly crushing the New Republic and chasing the Jedi into hiding.
In this chaos, the First Order emerged, obliterating most of the invaders at the cost of their superweapon, Starkiller Base, and allying with the New Republic to chase them from the galaxy once and for all. Both sides severely depleted, the galaxy entered a period of icy stand-off. Despising the First Order but disillusioned by the weak New Republic, swathes of the Outer and Mid Rims quietly seceded from the New Republic to form a tumultuous array of warring nation-states known collectively as the Disputed Territories.
The greatest of these is the Obsidian Union, a nation of CIS-revivalists lead by the enigmatic Xaos and his Obsidian Knights, an order of Force-wielding warriors. Yet the Union's liberty propaganda masks a sinister secret - the true identity of the Knights is the ancient Sith Order, enemies of the Jedi and revitalised for a fresh conquest of the galaxy. In a galaxy spiralling into all-out war, the Sith are ready to reclaim their rightful throne as its lords.

The Place of the Players
You play members allied with the Obsidian Union faction. Player characters are either members of the Obsidian Knights (aka the New Sith Brotherhood), or skilled agents, soldiers, and operatives working for or alongside the Union. Your goal is simple: advance the Union cause, crush its enemies, institute Union (and thus Sith) rule over the galaxy, and reach your full power.
Lore of the Site
All of the site's lore is presented in our Fanon, which covers everything from history to important characters and factions, to military forces and equipment. Our fanon is always growing, and submissions are welcome.
Mechanics of Play
New Sith Brotherhood's mechanics are based off of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition (SWSE; a derivative of DnD 3.5e), but heavily modified to suit our forum format and incorporate a number of aspects from other roleplaying games. Most notably, numerous mechanics from DnD 5e have been incorporated. You can find out more about these house rules here; this also details how our adventures work in a forum format.
If you've never played DnD before, don't worry - everything you need to know is explained on site. However, for a bit of wider context we recommend you skim through the opening chapters of the SWSE core rulebook - this can easily be found through a Google search.
The core mechanic is simple: whenever the outcome of something is in doubt, roll a 20-sided dice (d20), add various modifiers based on your character's abilities and the situation, and compare the result to some number describing the situation's difficulty.
Creating Your Character
Character creation is divided into eight main steps, with a zeroth step outlining the process and a ninth step discussing your character's progression. A player can have a total of three active characters at one time, two of which may be members of the New Sith Brotherhood.
Before beginning character creation, we recommend you read the house rules document linked above, and also read through the first three posts in the Combat Rules document (you can read the entire thread in detail at your leisure, but the first three cover important mechanics to know when creating your character).
You should also decide whether the character will be a member of the New Sith Brotherhood, or one of the Union's elite operatives. This decision is important as the two follow very different progressions. Members of the New Sith Brotherhood advance in what is called a 'Path', beginning with a Basic Path that leads into an Advanced Path and finally a powerful Master Path as they grow into their power. Characters not in the Brotherhood instead take a traditional 'Class' approach as found in many RPGs. They begin play in a Starting Class and, upon reaching level 7, can begin taking further levels in Prestige Classes associated with their Starting Class. These systems are described in detail during character creation.
All of the resources associated with character creation are centralised in this forum, including a blank character sheet template. You can also look at completed character sheets for examples of how your character sheet should look and be formatted.
And last but not least, if you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask.
