Xamie could only gape, open mouthed, at Dawnstar's back. The entire point of the droid armies had been to avoid sending their own citizens into the meat grinder, and now...and now a group of boys was marching behind Dawnstar, marching to their deaths.
She realised in that instance that the CIS was irrevocably lost. It had died with Dooku on the Invisible Hand - Dawnstar called himself the inheritor, but he understood nothing of Dooku's plans, she now knew. Dooku would never have allowed these boys into battle, he would have found another way, recruited mercenaries or something else. But what else could she do but try and hold out, hope the droid armies came back online and something changed? She could not surrender - even if the thought had crossed her mind, she knew the Empire would simply execute her. She had no choice but to fight, and pray.
Resigned, she followed Dawnstar and his crew of green boys.

Once he had inspected the base and set his troops to preparing themselves for battle, Dawnstar sequestered himself in the command room. The CIS and Imperial forces had been fighting brutally over Riven Pass, a narrow strip of land between a hefty group of high hills and a river system that was the only effective way for ground forces to pass easily from the CIS base to the Republic outpost a few kilometers away, and vice-versa. Now alone, Xaos could begin to plan the decisive engagement he knew was coming.
As he studied the terrain, Dawnstar reflected on the intelligence he had been able to gather about the enemy Imperial force.
Unfortunately, the damned Imperials had been making good use of the jungle to keep their true numbers hidden, fighting from the treeline to keep their composition hidden. Xaos knew they were relying largely on regular infantry with only a few heavy vehicles for massive fire support, standard Republic tactics, but exactly how many they had of each he wasn't sure.
((With your blessing, I'd like to take this to have a bit of fun and try out Squad Mechanics (and I just discovered Mass Combat Mechanics! We'll try those another time.) The Clone Trooper units will use this Stat Block of about 3-4 Clone Troopers. I'd like to use this Stat Block for Xaos' Militiamen, converted to Squads (increase the size by 1 and add any modifiers, double the HP, increase the DT by 10, add +4 to attack rolls, increase CL by 2 (to 2). I can do that myself if you'd prefer. Also, even though we'll be using stats for 3-4 beings in a Squad we can treat this as up to a dozen beings in each squad to increase the scale without increasing the crunch.
Each square on the map represents 2 normal squares (rounded down whenever applicable), so the infantry units will be able to move 3 squares on a turn. The map is alphabetical along the columns starting from left to right, and numerical along the rows starting from top to bottom. Xaos will be able to deploy units into Row 1 or 2; there won't be a 'deployment phase', it'll just happen. The Republic forces will deploy in the top two rows (24 and 25).
Using the same point-buy scheme as in the Tactics Lab, Xaos has brought 20 CL worth of assorted troops and vehicles with him. The troop squads are CL 2. He has air support, but that is tied up with Imperial air support and won't affect the battle. He has access to CIS vehicles (that are normally crewed by droids, ie. no droid brains), but they are all crewed by green recruits; this has reduced their Crew Quality to 'Normal', so the vehicle's CL decreases by 1. Because he failed his Gather Information check, Xaos doesn't know exactly how many Republic forces there are or who the commander is/their favoured tactics, but I'll build it to rough parity to keep things interesting.
Finally, Tree/Foliage Squares count as Difficult Terrain, but provide Cover. On the left side of the map is a rocky terrain area - this represents a cliff face that takes a unit's entire movement to safely scale or descend in a turn. However, enemies on the high ground ignore Cover against enemies in trees.
And lastly, let me know if you don't want to do this, or you disagree with any of the rules up above, and we'll hash out an alternative.))1d20+15

Dawnstar makes a Gather Information check against a DC of 25 at +15; I'm abstracting this as him collating assorted battle reports to identify the strength of the enemy force: CTxiwcPwp_1d20+15.
