Subject: The Castellum Project (Union Space Defence Program)
Lord Reaver,
As you are no doubt aware, using his connections with Kuat Drive Yards, Lord Ares has, with the support of the Federal Military, developed, approved and began the construction of a network of space-based defence installations, under the codename “The Castellum Project”. This document is an advance copy of the information that will eventually be made available to the general Union public, and as such is information the Galactic Alliance will be able to discern with little effort. Additionally, this document includes any classified material directly related to the network that will be made available to those of higher-level clearance. Levels of clearance will be noted. This document is, as always, yours to distribute amongst the members of the New Sith Brotherhood as you please.

The Union Space Defence Program
((The following information will be publicly available.))
The Union Space Defence Program is an initiative to help ensure the safety of citizens of the Obsidian Union in the event of assault by Galactic Alliance (hereafter referred to as “GA”) aggressors via the installation of a network of space-based defence installations around member planets of the Obsidian Union. These defence installations are permanent constructions, acting as deterrent against initial GA aggression and as reinforcement in the unlikely event that the GA manages to penetrate Union space. Each member planet will be required to train and provide a number of recruits to man their stations, as the resources of the Federal Military must be focused elsewhere. Regrettably, planets that are unable to provide sufficient personnel to crew these stations will not be provided with them, as each installation represents a substantial investment requiring assurance that it will be put to firm use by the people and planets they protect. The type of installation will vary by planet; higher-value planets will have higher-value installations assigned to their protection. The people of the Obsidian Union are assured that while their government values their lives and freedoms, it regrettably does not yet have unlimited resources to assign to the protection of its people and the freedoms it values so deeply. Installation types are as follows:
Cardan I-class space station
Requiring a crew of 1,200 to operate at maximum efficiency, Cardan I-class space stations are equipped with a squadron of TIE Fighters for defence patrol, as well as two light Turbolaser batteries and two point-defence light Ion Batteries to engage heavier targets. These stations form the backbone of the Union Space Defence Program, and will be installed along trade routes and in the skies above most worlds of the Obsidian Union. Where possible, a Union Stellar Navy Captain will be assigned to oversee operations on-board the station, until such time as it is judged that the local recruits no longer require the direct oversight of the Federal Military and a member of the local recruits will be promoted to overall command of the installation.
Additionally, each station can carry a maximum of two Lambda-class shuttles for personnel and cargo transport.
Cardan II-class space station
Carrying an increased armament, stronger defensive capabilities and a larger fighter complement of two squadrons of TIE Fighters, Cardan II-class space stations are the guardians of the higher-value planets within the Obsidian Union; planets requiring a more substantial orbital defensive force due to resources, location, production capabilities or other such factors. Due to the importance of planets assigned these installations, even in the event that the planet is unwilling or unable to provide the 2,400 men and women needed to operate this station efficiently, they will still be manned by skeleton crews of the noble and courageous men and women of the Federal Military. However, the planets of the Union are strongly urged to contribute to the defence of their freedoms against GA tyranny, and any station manned by a skeleton crew will be far less effective than stations manned by brave citizens willing to take up arms in the cause of freedom.
Each station can support a maximum of four Lambda-class shuttles and is overseen by a Captain, with the same circumstances as a Cardan I-class.
Golan Arms Space Defence SpaceGun
Golan Arms Space Defender SpaceGuns (hereafter referred to as just "SpaceGuns") are fixed battle stations, designed to defend targets of high-value or possible enemy interest. Unlike the Cardan-classes that will protect the people and planets of the Union, SpaceGuns require little in the way of crew; a mere 213 to crew the station, with an additional 112 gunners. Measuring in at over 1200m long, each SpaceGun carries 28 separate Turbolaser batteries, 5 Proton torpedo launchers (with a maximum of 16 proton torpedoes each) and a TIE Fighter complement of 24 minimum, with the capacity to accommodate more. Each is also capable of supporting up to 140 troops to repel boarding actions by GA aggressors.
Information on the crew makeup and location of the Union’s SpaceGuns is classified, however the people can rest assured that they are placed in important locations where any ill-invading GA will be met with men and women fighting to protect their homes rather than fill the coffers of bureaucrats and politicians.

Cardan III-class space station
Space stations of the Cardan III-class have, by the release of this document, been placed at key points along the Union-Alliance border, known colloquially as the “Cortosis Curtain”. Each carries 4 squadrons of TIE Fighters, numerous Turbolaser, Ion Cannon and Point-Defence emplacements and 6 Lambda-class shuttles. Due to their importance, each station will be maintained at its optimal crew requirement of 4,800, at the expense of lesser-class stations if necessary. Unlike planetary defence stations such as the Cardan I and II, Cardan IIIs will always be overseen by an officer of the Stellar Navy, typically a Captain but as high as a High Captain in times of extreme duress. The Cortosis Curtain network of stations has been placed under the command of Admiral Nesota Alexis, and all men will treat her as they would an Admiral in a Fleet situation.
Cardan IV-class space station
Under the direct command of New Bethrezen System Security, two Cardan IV-class space stations have been placed in orbit around New Bethrezen, supplementing the station’s existing defences and bolstering the Home Fleet itself. A prodigious armament and a full wing of TIE Fighters, as well as 8 Lambda-class shuttles, to each station requires that each station maintain a full crew requirement in excess of 4800. They have been assigned the same priority as the stations of the Cortosis Curtain, especially in the wake of the traitor Lady Vidia’s assault on the capitol. Whilst each station is commanded by a High Captain, both Captains report directly to first to High Admiral Peter Jade (as the commander of the Home Fleet), followed by the Grand Admiral of the Stellar Navy and finally the Military Executor himself.

Golan Arms Space Defence NovaGun
At 2,600 metres long (1000 more than an Imperial-class Star Destroyer), NovaGuns are among the largest non-Star Dreadnought piece of space technology the Union has access to. As such, they are prohibitively expensive; the Federal Military is currently only supporting two: one above Yaxon VI, and one defending New Bethrezen. Each carries 50 Turbolaser batteries, 24 proton torpedo launchers, fifteen Tractor beam projectors and a minimum of one squadron of TIE Fighters. Fully manned with 880 crew and 228, the NovaGun represents the pinnacle of the Castellum Project; heavily armed, heavily armoured and designed solely for the defence of the most critical of targets. Their command structures are identical to those of the Cardan IVs in orbit around New Bethrezen, and New Bethrezen's NovaGun is similarly under the command of New Bethrezen System Security.
