Backstory: Growing up in the northern regions of Mandalore, Varg is no stranger to wilderness living and surviving harsh conditions. He was raised in the city of Cin'ciri'oriya (meaning Snow-City in Mando'a), a Mandalorian settlement that declared neutrality in the midst of the various splinter groups fighting each other. Due to this, the city was victim of frequent attacks from the various splinter groups who wanted to intimidate them into picking a side. Living in such an environment, Varg had to adopt a warrior lifestyle early on, taking his first life at the age of 13 during an attack on his city. At age 16, he demonstrated impressive leadership ability as he and a group of soldiers successfully fought back an assault, gaining great respect from the chieftain Vyr'arad, and was named to his counsel. This made the cheftain's son Mak'ad upset, and he considered Varg to be competition for his father's favour. Varg's father, being proud of his son, passed down an important family heirloom; a Jedi lightsaber, from some time ago.
Unlike traditional Jedi or Sith, Varg did not have the luxury of learning how to handle a a lightsaber through katas and drills. He learned on the battlefield, learning in the heat of battle. However, he had no technique or proven form to go off of, and his style lacked refinement. All in all, it got the job done.
Varg led a fortification effort, reinforcing walls and towers around the village, and argued for an increased training regimen for every citizen. The surrounding geography offered many advantages, which he made sure was utilized. To assert their newfound power, Varg led an assault against a nearby city who harbored their enemies. Although he was untrained in the art of the lightsaber, it's mere presence was intimidating and caused fear, which he exploited. Varg and his men cut down and executed every enemy who did not flee in time, and commandeered a number of military vehicles and ammunition caches and resources that would be put to use back in Cin'ciri'oriya.
With fortifications set, and a decent military strength, the city was able to stand strong. Mak'ad was very jealous of Varg, and plotted to betray him. Behind closed doors, Mak'ad plotted against both his father, and against Varg. He met in secret with the leaders of the Sith-backed Mandalorian rebels, and offered his allegiance and the resources of the city if they assaulted Cin'ciri'oriya and displaced his father, naming him the new ruler. Several peaceful months later, the rebels attacked once more, in more numbers than ever before. After days of battle, the rebels destroyed the fortifications, and fought to the center of the city. They marched into the city hall, and executed Vyr'arad. Mak'ad angrily protested, but was submitted quickly. The rebels immediately housed their garrison in the city, and declared that any resistance would be met with lethal force. To demonstrate this, they rounded up a number of surrendered soldiers and citizens and executed them in the city square, this included Varg's family. Mak'ad, essentially being a puppet leader, did nothing and submitted to their rule.
After this, Varg realized the city was lost, and departed. He did not know where he was going or what his plans were, but getting into space was his first step.
