Preface: Minister of Justice, this is the criminal profile you requested. Why this is being assigned to us and not to the Department of Defense is beyond me but I didn’t get where I am by questioning the Senate’s orders. I just can’t imagine what we’ll do with it after we send it to the Senate Special Committee for Counterinsurgent Matters. I trust you’ll omit this preface before presenting it? After all, you don’t want me telling them what we used to get up to at university (Hahaha), anyway, on to the meat of my preface.
I don’t mind telling you that info on this guy is damnably hard to dig up. The stuff in the beginning of the Personal History section wasn’t too difficult to find (it’s a matter of public record) but after the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War it’s like he just fell off the face of the Galaxy. I’m willing to bet our friends in the Outer Rim have a thing or two to do with that. Did I tell you that the Committee for Investigation of Unpatriotic Activities convicted another high placed official of Unionism? Here’s the shocker, its old Simnus Melcher. Can you believe it? A karking Senator’s chief aide and they found a copy of The Complete Philosophical Tracts of Darth Xaos in his house.
But I’m getting off topic. As I was saying, there’s next to no information on Kuran between the end of the YV War and his defection. Oh, I found assignments and commissions easy enough but for an Admiral that’s a bare minimum. The most I could get my hands on was an old complaint from an ensign that Kuran was sleeping with his Chief MP Officer. That never got followed through on by the high-ups though (however, after seeing a picture of the woman in question I’m certain he was guilty as sin; I know I would be in his position). Naturally this means the profilers had little to go on in regards to perhaps the most crucial part of the Psychological Profile section. So they had to rely heavily on what we knew about him from before the YV War. As a result, I can’t totally vouch for all their conclusions but I feel that, in general, their reasoning is sound.
On a more positive note, I managed to snag a very recent picture of Kuran. The Union may like keeping information about its high-ups locked up tighter than a Hutt’s concubines but they just can’t seem to resist posting images of them on every flat surface in sight. Bad news is I had to call in a few favors at Intelligence HQ for the necessary info for the Position within the Union section. Expect bitchy calls wanting equivalent exchange. Well, I won’t belabor this any longer. After this assignment I’m going to need one hell of a vacation.

Personal History of Criminal:
Kana Einor Kuran was born on Bastion during the waning years of the Galactic Empire. His father was a Warrant Officer in the Imperial Navy and a passionate supporter of the Empire. When Kuran reached the age of fourteen his father used his scant few connections to get Kuran a position as a low-ranking officer on an Imperial Remnant corvette. Despite Kuran’s age and his lack of formal academy training, the combination of Kuran’s family connections and the Remnant’s general desperation after Palpatine’s final death won out. Within short order the young Kana Kuran worked his way through the ranks, eventually surpassing his father and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
The outbreak of the Yuuzhan Vong War and uniting of the Republic and Remnant into the Galactic Alliance was a bitter pill to swallow for the young Kuran. He is known to have commented at the foundation of the GA, “This is what it’s come to: siding with the rebels to defeat a foe we could’ve taken easily if the Emperor were still here.” It was during the Yuuzhan Vong War that Kuran would earn the great accolades the GA bestowed on him.
Kuran was assigned to the New Dawn, an Executor-Class SSD and flagship of a sizeable fleet, as its second mate. During a battle in no-man’s space, the Vong released spores into the ships of the fleet that drove the vast majority of GA servicemen insane. Kuran was the highest ranking member of the fleet to retain his sanity. After reliving his violently mad superiors at the point of a blaster, he rallied the crew of the New Dawn which was, at that point, the only ship in the fleet still functioning. Against all odds and with only a skeleton crew, Kuran managed to soundly defeat the Vong.
Hailed as a wunderkind and hero upon his return to GA space, Kana Kuran was promoted to the post of Admiral and given command of the newly rebuilt fleet assigned to the New Dawn. He played a vital role throughout the remainder of the Yuuzhan Vong War and was given multiple commendations, even being honored by the Chief of State along side such luminaries as Gilad Pellaeon and Luke Skywalker at the conclusion of the War.
There is little information regarding the period between the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War and Kana Kuran’s defection to the Union. However, the defection itself is well documented. After the Yaxon Fiasco, as most in political circles call the failed attempt to suppress the Obsidian Union in response to false intelligence informing the Senate of Darth Xaos’ death, the Senate voted overwhelmingly for a massive military expedition to defeat the Union in its infancy. At the recommendation of Gilad Pellaeon, Kana Kuran was given command of the expedition.
The expedition was to stop at a series of waypoints before entering Union territory. At the final waypoint Kuran ordered a ten day preparation period in direct disobedience to the expedition’s mandate. During this time he is known to have met with members of the New Sith Brotherhood and, ultimately, agreed to join the Union. Unfortunately, the majority of the expedition’s soldiers had served under Kuran during the Yuuzhan Vong War and they proved to be more loyal to the Admiral than to the GA. What little resistance there was to the move was violently repressed and most of the expedition was intact when it entered Union space as the newest members of the Union’s Federal Military. This act of betrayal more than tripled the size of the Union’s forces and gave them their first recorded Super Star Destroyer. Kuran appeared with the Union’s Consul, Darth Xaos, in a broadcast later that week where the Consul granted Kuran the rank of High Admiral and declared the New Dawn the Union’s flagship, renaming it the Righteous Fury.
Since then, Kuran has been present at all major space battles between the GA and Union. The most infamous being the Battle of Teth, which occurred soon after Kuran’s defection, during which the Righteous Fury destroyed the Galactic Alliance Defense Force flagship and claimed the life of their Supreme Commander.
Position within the Union:
Kana Kuran’s official rank is High Admiral. Second only to the Grand Admiral of the Union’s Stellar Navy, the seven High Admirals command truly massive fleets sometimes having even Admirals under their command. Kuran seems to be the foremost of these High Admirals as evidenced by his command of the Union’s flagship and all the privileges that entails (the most outward of these being the special uniform he wears that is notably distinct from those of the rest of the High Admirals).
Psychological Profile of Criminal:
Kana Kuran’s chief childhood influence seems to have been his father. This is evidenced by Kuran following his father’s footsteps by joining the Imperial Navy and by their shared idealization of the Empire in general. It is entirely within reason to assume that his father’s death during the Yuuzhan Vong War was a contributing factor in Kuran’s eventual defection.
Kuran’s Neo-Imperialist sentiments run deep indeed as is evidenced by a message he sent to Gilad Pellaeon shortly after Kuran’s defection that read simply, “Death to traitors.” This was obviously meant to imply that those Imperial Remnant members who remained with the GA after the Yuuzhan Vong War betrayed the ideals of the Empire. Kuran’s Neo-Imperialism seems to devoid of prejudice of other species (perhaps due to the fact that humans are actually a minority in Union space) and focuses instead on strict, authoritarian centralization of power.
Furthermore, Kana Kuran displays a high degree of confidence in his own abilities. Numerous seemingly impossible victories have made him convinced of his own invincibility. This may be combined with other aspects of his personality to create kinks in his psychology. While it is unknown whether or not he feels resentment over this fact, Kuran has been up for the post of Grand Admiral numerous times and each time has been passed over for a member of the New Sith Brotherhood with less command experience than he. In conclusion, the best bet a GADF commander has to assail Kuran on a psychological level is to exploit his overconfidence, vitriolic Neo-Imperial sentiments and possible resentment towards the Union’s upper echelons. This profiler suggests a leaflet campaign amongst the troops under his command that highlights the instances when the now-deceased Consul Xaos pandered to the New Republic Purist elements of the Galactic Liberation Party.
