The Obsidian Knights are a brotherhood of warrior-philosophers in the Obsidian Union. They are the Union’s protectors, spiritual leaders, and military commanders. The Knights were founded alongside the Union by Consul Rakshesh Dawnstar; Dawnstar would adopt the moniker ‘Xaos’ in keeping with the Knights’ traditions. Wielding volcanic-coloured lightsabers and possessing a mastery of the Force fueled by their intense loyalty to the Union cause, the Knights reject the narrow-minded fears of the Jedi and embrace the Force in its mystical entirety.
Central to the Obsidian Knights’ philosophy are the three tenets of loyalty, brotherhood, and veneration. The Knights venerate the worship of ancient Force Spirits, and often make pilgrimages to far-off planets to pay tribute or unearth their history. Old Jedi propaganda tries to paint these spirits as iron-fisted rulers lingering through dark arts, but the reality is simply that the love these great beings inspired in their followers allowed a part of them to persist after their death to watch over their subjects in a way that perhaps Consul Xaos will watch over us in a thousand years.
Founded alongside the Obsidian Union, the Knights’ loyalty to our proud nation is written into the fabric of both groups. But their loyalty to each other is enshrined in their Code of Brotherhood, a legendary creed kept secret to all outside their order.
When they welcome a new Knight into the fold, they begin their training as an Apprentice, cast off their old name, and adopt a new one identifying them as one of the Knights. Apprentices who complete their training become true Knights to insure our safety by leading our forces and solving diplomatic issues. The most powerful Knights are elevated to the position of Master, where they join Consul Xaos on the governing Council ruling the Obsidian Knights and advising the Consul on matters of state. The unity of the Knights and Masters and their positions throughout our forces and political appointments, the Knights grant us a unity no others can hope to match.
With the Obsidian Knights as our sword and shield, the Obsidian Union stands tall in the chaos of the Outer Rim. The First Order tested our Knights and was broken by their resolve – this is the fate of the New Republic, and any others who threaten the Union’s liberty!

Can you believe this drek? This is what they put up on their Shadowfeeds for the public to read – anyone with the faintest knowledge of galactic history should be able to read between the lines but they’ve got most of the Union fooled. I can just see their smug little smirks as they put their clever little jokes and puns in. Their ‘Knightly’ names are just their Sith names with the ‘Darth’ dropped!
Anyway, as you requested, here’s the prelim stuff we and our Jedi liasons have conclusively figured out.
First off, the whole ‘Obsidian Knights’ thing is just one big cover story. Behind closed doors they call themselves the ‘New Sith Brotherhood’ – the Jedi say these are their ancient enemies but that they thought Luke Skywalker wiped them out with Palpatine and Darth Vader. No idea where these came from, but one thing they did point out was that one of their Sith Masters matches the description of a legendary ‘red warrior’ Sith that pops up a few times throughout history. I’ve put the details of that in another file.
Their ranking system is pretty close to what they tell the public. Sith Apprentices are trained into becoming Sith Knights, and the best of these join the Dark Council to serve alongside Darth Xaos – Dawnstar, we’re still looking into him. There’s no way he can be the same guy from the Clone Wars. What the report leaves out is how toothless the rest of the Union politicians are by comparison – Xaos and the Sith are the true real power in the Union, everyone else has to jockey for whatever they can get. They split the Sith up depending on their own talents – they call these Paths, but we’re still trying to pin down how they work. What we know so far is that the Knights are where they vary the most, so you’ll have Sith Lords leading their droid armies while Marauders fight on the front lines.
The other thing we’re trying to figure out is where some of their other Knights come from. We know that their sword-and-shield fighters, the Knights of Zakuul, come from an old planet somewhere in the Unknown Regions, but they also field ‘Enchanters’ we can’t pin down the origins of.
The Jedi reckon they’re engaged in a sort of ‘ancestor worship’ – they’re trying to track down and restore old temples dedicated to ancient Dark Lords and other Sith, they’re the ones they worship. The Jedi say there’s an old planet called Korriban in the middle of Zsinj’s territory that’s home to hundreds of old tombs which we’re following up on to see what we can learn.
Lightsabers and Force Powers is pretty spot on, but another big question is where most of the Sith Masters came from. We think one or two of them may have filtered in from the Reborn movement the Jedi put a stop to a few decades ago, but we can’t figure out where they got so many powerful Force Users from so quickly. We’ve got a few theories on that that are tied to that ‘red warrior’ – see that file.
Speaking of, here are the confirmed members of their Dark Council that we have so far. Each of them have separate files I’ve attached to this one:
Darth Xaos, the Dark Lord and Consul. You know this guy.
Darth Lucifer, the ‘red warrior’. We know next to nothing about this guy save that he’s one of the old, old Sith – apparently Sith was a species before it was an order.
Darth Reaver, one of their military generals. We think he may have been a former Jedi, but a lot of records were lost during the Yuuzhan Vong War so the Jedi haven’t been able to figure things out yet. Regular human.
Darth Exolus, we only know his name. We're not even sure if he's real or a piece of Sith propaganda to inspire fear in a boogeyman..
Darth Kairos, another one of their military guys. Best we can tell he was an Alderaanian, did some smuggling work during the Vong War but dropped off the map halfway through until he turned up with the Union.
Darth Nephelus, we’re not really sure about this guy either. We think he’s related to the Onderon Royal Family, but they’re part of the Union now and we haven’t managed to get into their records to have another look. Best we can tell, he’s one of their sorcerers.
We think the Council has an assassin in it as well, a personal agent of the Dark Lord, but we haven’t been able to find out any details yet. If they exist, they’re good at hiding.
Lastly, we’re still trying to figure out their Code of Brotherhood. No luck on that yet – seems like it’s passed between members orally. They’re smart about trying to keep their true natures hidden, at least.
Remember to encrypt this with the proper protocols if you send this on – I don’t want Cracken breathing down our necks again!
